Twenty-five minutes is one Pomodoro: the length Francesco Cirillo used for his focus blocks (Cirillo).

  • One chapter section read closely, with margin notes.
  • A first draft of a short email or a single page of an essay.
  • A set of practice problems in one topic.
  • A focused cleaning sprint for one room.

It works because it is short enough to start without a fight and long enough to finish a real piece of work. Want breaks built in? The 25/5 Pomodoro timer adds a 5-minute break and a long break after four rounds.

Day math: eight of these, with 5-minute breaks and one 15-minute long break, take just over four hours.

25 minute timer with calm music

A 25-minute block is one Pomodoro, and two Nova playlists are almost exactly that long: Classical runs 24 minutes 35 seconds and Lo-Fi 24 minutes 31 seconds. Start both together and the music ends just before the chime, so the silence becomes your cue to wrap up. Choose Classical for reading and calm work, Lo-Fi if you want a soft beat.
