What fits in 3 minutes

Three minutes is short, but it covers more than you might think:

  • Steep a cup of tea.
  • A three-minute breathing or body-scan exercise between meetings.
  • A timed quick-write: everything you remember about yesterday's lecture, no looking.
  • One round of flashcards on a single topic.
  • A clean-up countdown at the end of a lesson.

Day math: three minutes of self-testing after each of four study blocks is twelve minutes a day of the most effective kind of review.

3 minute timer with calm music

Three minutes is a good length for a short mindful pause, a stretch between lessons or letting tea steep while you breathe. Choose the Nova Classical playlist or rain, start the timer and do nothing else until the soft chime. If you use it with a class, the Lullabies playlist gives a music-box calm-down for younger pupils.

The rain sound is marked Suggested in the timer above. Start it at a low volume.

Want breaks built in?

The closest interval method is the 25/5 Pomodoro timer: 25 minutes of focus, then a 5 minute break, on repeat, with a 15 minute break after every 4 blocks.

Questions

About the 3 minute timer. Missing something? Write to contact@novasouds.se.

It works for anything that needs a short, exact countdown. Start it with one tap or the Space key, and choose an end sound you will hear from the next room.

Press R to reset and Space to start again. That makes it easy to run several three-minute rounds back to back, for example for timed quick-writes.

Slow, instrumental music without a beat: solo piano, soft guitar or a music box. Rain works too if you prefer no melody.
